Margaret Shevlin Adams' Notes
Margaret Shevlin Adams, a descendant of Charles [1837}, researched the Shevlin family in the 1970's. In 1979 she distributed a set of notes to interested parties.
She listed her sources as: 1) Catskill Court House, 2) Francis Farrell of Tannersville, 3) Justine Hummel, Town Historian for Tannersville, and 4) census records.
Much of the information Mrs. Adams provided has been confirmed by census records. However, she makes a number of assertions, including the following, for which no further documentation has been found:
| James Shevlin, born 1830 in Ireland, was a son of Charles and Bridget. | |
| Daniel Shevlin [1798] was a brother of Charles. | |
| Citing Francis Farrel, she indicates there a "Red Charlie" Shevlin [in Hunter?], a baker who spoke Gaelic. He was born in 1783 and lived to be 104 to 106. |
