Notes on Unplaced Individuals
James Shevlin, born about 1840 in New York, appears in the 1850 and 1860 census in Hunter. The only Shevlin male from Hunter who could be his father is Charles [1806] who is assumed to be the father of James [1830]. Daniel [1798] is of the right age to be his father but his daughter Ann was born in Ireland about 1842, so he can be ruled out as the father.
John Shevlin, age 25, appears in the 1860 census. This could be the same John who is the son of Charles and Bridget. If so, it means that John is double counted because he is listed with Charles and Bridget in 1860.
Angeline Shevlin does not appear in any other census record for Hunter.
Ann Shevlin, born 1845 may be Ann Shevlin [1842} who was still single in 1865. The problem with this explanation is that this Ann is listed as having been born in Greene County rather than Ireland. This could be a clerical error. Ann was young enough when she arrived in America that she may have lost her Irish accent, which might have a contributing factor if an error was made.
